They say all good things come in pairs, but the trio of Hanna Steinour, Carleigh Croom, and Riley Potts has powered Davie Softball for the past 4 years. These three players have all committed to furthering their athletic and academic careers at 3 different colleges. They were celebrated for their achievements in a signing ceremony on the afternoon of December 11. They were joined by family, friends, and coaches to celebrate the big step to the next level.
Croom announced that she would be continuing her softball career at Queens Univeristy of Charlotte, Steinour would take a trip up to the mountains to play at Brevard College, and Potts to Valdosta State.
“I just love the place where it’s at and all the people there,” Crooms says about her choice to attend Queens. “They just seem really, you know, fun, and like they could be my family.”
As far as majors go, these girls have chosen some incredible areas of study on top of their athletic talents. Steinour is going to study forensic science after she was inspired by the show “Bones.” Potts hopes to go into athletic training that was inspired by her own injury that limited athletic activity including the sport she loves.
Since these girls have one more season left at Davie, they want to give it their all just like they have been since they started playing together at North Davie Middle School.
“This is the last year that there’s three of us that have been playing together since 6th grade,” Steinour notes, referring to herself, Raelyn Lankford, and Carleigh Croom. “So that going to be pretty difficult, but I think it would be cool if we do end up conference champions.”
These girls also have their own personal goals as they finish up their high school careers.
“I think, you know, since I had that injury last year, I think trying to break personal records, as far as, like the softball records, is going to be a little tough,” Potts says. “But I feel like I need to be a leader and have the team unified, that should be easily achievable.
As they start to look towards the future, they reflect on the past and look at some memories, such as Croom hitting the scoring run leading to a victory over West Forsyth. With their senior seasons still ahead of them, it is undeniable that many more memories can be made just like this and this trio can be one of the contributors to the team’s success as they go for all the goals they have ever wanted and more.
