On Friday, March 6, the undefeated Davie men’s lacrosse team faced its toughest challenge yet in a match against Lincoln Charter, a game that would be a true test of endurance, composure, and determination. Both teams set a hectic pace from the opening whistle, with each possession seeming to be answered by a goal from the opposing team. As the clock ran out in regulation play, Lincoln Charter managed to get out in front by a single goal. But Davie refused to let them have the win.
In the final seconds of the game, the War Eagles performed under pressure, sinking a crucial shot to level the score and force sudden-death overtime. The fans in the stadium immediately became electric, cheering on the War Eagles who had four minutes to score the next goal to take the win home.
Tension filled the stadium as overtime got underway. Davie’s first possession from offense went nowhere, giving Lincoln Charter the opportunity to steal the win for themselves. However, it was junior goalie Carson Pirk who made a huge save to turn the tables once again in favor of the War Eagles. Not only did it keep the score tied, but it also earned a penalty for Lincoln Charter, giving Davie the man-up advantage.
“We were blessed with Carson Pirk making a great save and were able to get the ball to offense again,” senior Caswell Moore said. “Pirk was a massive reason we won that game; he saved a lot.”
With under two minutes remaining, senior Caswell Moore seized that window. Moore’s shot, which was low and fast and found its mark in the bottom left corner, ensured the victory and sent the sideline erupting with excitement.
“I decided to take the risk, and aimed for the hip (because Jack Pisciotta has always taught me that’s the place to aim), and it went in,” Moore said. “I just felt a wave of relief because I did not want to be the one who missed. But watching the ball hit the back of the net solidified all of the hard work we put in during this game to get the win.”
Though the War Eagles’ win came down to the wire, their victory was ensured long before the final minute and the game-winning goal. Throughout the game, the Davie offense once again relied on the standout performances of its top scorers. Henry Hines led the way with five goals, continuing his impressive season, while Jack Pisciotta was right behind him with four goals of his own, consistently finding the holes in the Lincoln Charter defense.
Gaining possession was also crucial in the game, and Moore delivered there as well. His performance at faceoff was particularly notable, taking 80% and providing the extra possessions the Davie offense needed in such a closely contested and high-pressure game.
Ultimately, the game was about far more than the finish; it was about the display of perseverance and determination for the War Eagles, traits that prove the team’s drive to play through to the last minute, no matter the margins.
This victory extends Davie’s win streak, one they will fight to maintain with their next game on March 13 against Pine Lake Prep.
