Davie High School was left in a state of collective disbelief this week as science teacher and unwitting internet icon Collin Ferebee announced that he has “officially committed” to Harvard University to compete in Division I track and field. The news was delivered to his students in the form of a sign on his door that read, “Committed to Harvard Track. No, Seriously.” Ferebee then proceeded to his first-period class wearing sunglasses and a level of confidence that can only be achieved by a man who has actually talked to someone from Harvard.
Recruiters, it seems, found Ferebee from his TikTok video of his sprinting, and knew right away that they had found a man whose stride was unmistakable, that of a man who had spent years chasing high schoolers who “just stepped out for a second.” Harvard, sources claim, was not only taken by his form, but by the emotional depth of a man who had graded papers until midnight and lived to tell the tale.
Ferebee assures that the offer is real because, in his words, “if Slim Jim can find my TikTok, Ivy Leagues are definitely watching.” He has already begun his training, which consists of running down the science hallway, leaping over backpacks, and timing how quickly he can get to the practice field before his AP Physics students blow something up. Witnesses claim that his training also includes motivational speeches about rocks.
English teacher Matthew Barker, whose own TikTok dance video once held the school record for most views, offered his services with a hint of bitterness. “Good for him,” Barker said. “But if Harvard ever needs someone to interpretively dance through a sonnet, they know who to call.”
The school has made no comment on the signing because they have no idea it occurred. Ferebee is undeterred. In his words to the student body, “The algorithm chose me. Harvard will catch up eventually.”
