On Friday, November 21, senior Jack Pisciotta officially committed to Virginia Military Institute (VMI) for lacrosse, marking his next steps in his educational and athletic career. Family, friends, and past and present team members filled the learning commons to celebrate his accomplishment.
A superstar player from a young age, Pisciotta started winning awards for his performance as early as freshman year. Since then, he has earned multiple CPC all-conference awards, All-Star status multiple times on his travel team, the Manning’s Men Award in 2023, been selected for the New Balance All America Team South in 2025, and been named in the USA Lacrosse Magazine Player of the Week for the South Region.
One teammate, senior Caswell Moore, has played with Pisciotta since the fifth grade, when they were both on the Davie Recreation team. It would be easy to know him for his stats and awards, but that’s not the legacy he will leave behind. Pisciotta’s gameplay allows him to not only add points to the scoreboard but it gives others the spotlight on the field.
“He’s really good about giving each player a chance to score and have their, like ‘I’m the reason we won’ moment,” Moore said.
It is through actions like these that Pisciotta has stood out the most to not only his teammates, but his coaches as well. Though Brett Hewitt stepped into the role of head coach at the end of last season, he’s watched Pisciotta play for years from the stands, noting his impressive achievements and dedication to the game. What stood out to Hewitt the most, though, was Pisciotta’s commitment to service and leadership off the field.
“I’ve been impressed by his athletic ability, but I’m most impressed by the hours he dedicates to giving back. I’ve often seen Jack working with the youth at Davie Rec or officiating games. He also frequently works with daily rec lacrosse programs and clinics.” Hewitt said. “I’ve personally seen Jack after a long school day in school and practice stop by the Davie Rec fields to work with young kids, sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm, that kind of selfless leadership and commitment to making his teammates and the next generation better is truly the measure of a VMI Keydet.”
Pisciotta’s stats and character on the field made it no shock when he recived offers from multiple D1 programs, but VMI was the one that truly drew him in. VMI not only has a stellar lacrosse program but the military aspect provides the best background for his goal of becoming an FBI agent.
“What really just stuck out was some of the alumni connections that they have for jobs after college,” Pisciotta said. “I want to be an FBI agent. So now it’s really, you know, gonna help me.”
For Pisciotta, being an FBI agent means serving his community and protecting those who need it the most. Through lacrosse, he demonstrates these qualities on and off the field with his unwavering leadership and by building up his fellow teammates.
The team has made tremendous growth since Pisciotta stepped foot on the field for the War Eagles, but that’s not just because of his scoring ability. Knowing the team has the ability to win helps the whole team have the confidence to step onto the field to play their best, and that is what makes him the most proud. Many athletes leave behind legacies of records, achievements and awards, but Pisciotta will be remembered for the confidence that he provided the team. His leadership, selflessness and willingness to help has set the lacrosse team up for years to come.
