With the 2026 Hope Prom approaching, excitement is building once again — and this year, the Soaring Eagles will step into a world straight out of a storybook. Hope Prom is an annual event organized by Davie High’s National Honor Society (NHS) with the goal of providing a prom experience for students who may not have the opportunity otherwise. With a fairytale theme guiding every choice, the upcoming Hope Prom will be a celebration filled with wonder, imagination, and the kind of enchantment that only happens when a community comes together with a shared purpose.
While NHS has many committees, the Soaring Eagle Committee takes the lead on organizing Hope Prom. The committee is led by presidents Cody White and Luke Wollner, with the Hope Prom subcommittee chaired by Penelope Sa. As a team, they oversee months of planning leading up to the event as they prepare to turn First Baptist Church into a scene straight from a storybook.
Preparation for Hope Prom starts early in the school year, with NHS members brainstorming themes, securing sponsors, and coordinating logistics to ensure the event runs smoothly. The committee plans every detail, from decorations and food to accessibility and accommodations, carefully curating each choice to fit the chosen fairytale theme.
“Preparation is a lot of sending emails to the teachers from the middle schools and high school to get numbers of students, allergies, restrictions, etc.” Penelope Sa said. “We need to make sure everyone has something to eat and drink at Hope Prom.”
With the theme finalized, the plans for the transformation of the First Baptist church into a setting that would resemble a fairytale began. With the hope of getting just the best visual effects and decoration, the Decorations Committee, headed by Ada Wallace and Luke Wollner, has taken on the task of transforming the event with magical lighting, drapes, and unique elements of whimsy that will redefine the space. Additionally, in a bid to incorporate this background, this committee spent funds on decorations that might look like those of fairytales, such as mushrooms, unicorns, among others.
Beyond planning and organizing details, the true purpose of Hope Prom lies in creating an experience that is magical and inclusive for every student who attends. For NHS members, Hope Prom represents much more than a club project or a chance to earn service hours; it is about making each student feel seen and celebrated.
For NHS members like Senior Bailey Aderhold, Hope Prom provides an opportunity for students to make a meaningful impact.
“I wanted to be a part of something that really is about the students who deserve to be celebrated, supported, and noticed,” Aderhold explained. “Hope Prom is about a place where joy is first, where inclusion is first, which is something worth being there for.”
