Meet Davie County High School’s 70th Homecoming Court
The Weekly Talon takes you "Behind the Picture" for this year's homecoming court nominees
Lila Moore and Grace Carroll
The time has come once again to cast votes for Davie High’s Homecoming Court. Soon, pictures of each of this year’s nominees will grace the digital signage throughout the hallways, and ballots will be sent to student email accounts. But who are the young women vying for the position of this year’s Homecoming Queen? Read more as The Weekly Talon gives you a chance to take a peek behind the picture.
Bailey Aderhold
Bailey Aderhold’s life is one that has been filled with the clatter of a tennis racket and the echoing sounds of a basketball dribbled down the court. Throughout her entire high school career, Aderhold has been a varsity athlete on both these teams, this year taking on the position of captain. But her involvement in school echoes beyond the court. Aderhold holds the title of Student Body President (a part of Student Council), president of Student-Athelete Leadership Club, and leader of the Davie Crazies. Her involvement overall has looked a little different this year. Aderhold tore her ACL earlier this year, which put a slight damper on her senior year plans. Rather than allowing that to make her step back, she dove even further into her role as captain. Showing up has been her motto for this year. Whether that’s sitting on the sideline of a tennis match or helping with basketball practice, she has made the effort to still show up for her team. She plans to either attend UNC Chapel Hill for academics or Barton, William Peace, or Guilford for the opportunity to play on the basketball team. (Marnic Lewis)
Zowie Bailey
Take a glance at the sidelines from the stands at any Friday night football game, and you will spot Zowie Bailey on the track cheering on the War Eagles. She has been a member of the Davie Cheerleading program for all four years. For this year, she cheers on Varsity Football and will compete representing the War Eagles in February. When not at school, Bailey also finds joy in shopping and hanging out with friends. She makes an active effort to also meet new people and be welcoming. Next year, she plans to attend UNC Wilmington to major in Elementary Education. Her career goal is to be a kindergarten teacher. (Marnic Lewis)
Katie Beaver
While Davie allows for many opportunities for working with animals, Kaitie Beaver has found a love for horses. She works at a horse rescue and regularly volunteers to feed the homeless. Outside of her time spent with animals, Beaver has also remained involved in many organizations at the high school, including NHS, NTHS, marching band, and Wind Ensemble. In addition to these roles, she also serves as the president of FCCLA. After graduation, Beaver plans to attend Catawba University to earn her degree in Education. (Marnic Lewis)
Paisley Broadus
Paisley Broadus has found her niche, and it’s dance. Broadus is a prominent face in the competitive dance industry, competing for Dancers Edge (a studio in Winston) and has won multiple national competitions. Her involvement doesn’t end in dance though. As an active member of National Honor Society (NHS) and Dance National Honor Society (DNHS), she has found community service through her school. This year, Broadus also joined the varsity cheer team for the football season. After high school, dance hopefully won’t stop for Broadus. If she attends the University of South Carolina, she dreams of being a member of their three-time NDA national champions dance team. (Marnic Lewis)
Emily Bueno-Chiquito
Many kids get involved through a school activity, but Emily Bueno Chiquito has found her passion somewhere else. After school, she works for a daycare that makes its mission to brighten kids’ days. Whether that’s through fun games or faith-based activities. Bueno Chiquito is also an active member of NHS and serves as the Co-Fundraising chair for the Davie County SURF board. After high school, she plans to attend UNC-Wilmington to major in special education. As a career, she would love to become a behavioral technician to teach and support students with special needs. (Marnic Lewis)
Yasmin Chambers
Watching the band during third quarter of a football game, you notice the trombones doing suicides. Yasmin Chambers is the section leader who taught them how to do this impressive feat. Chambers is a member of the marching band, varsity lacrosse, Vice President of HOSA, and President of National Honor Society. Representing these organizations and the high school in this way is an honor that she does not take lightly. Chambers plans to attend a four-year university to major in biology on the pre-med track, ultimately wanting to pursue a career in medicine. (Marnic Lewis)
Skylar Dwiggins
Scrolling on Instagram, you may see Skylar Dwiggins’s most recent concert post pop up, whether it was the Lumineers or the Driver Era. Dwiggins finds her escape in concerts, but finds joy in a lot. Being a member of Student Council, varsity soccer, and the Interact Club, she is a very prominent member of Davie High School. Church is also a huge part of her life. Whether it’s helping with childcare or helping lead worship as a part of the worship team, she is always willing to help. After high school, she hopes to attend UNC Wilmington to get a degree in education. (Marnic Lewis)
Ava Gary
Being on the bus to an away football game may not be an ideal situation for many, but for the band business manager, it is an opportunity to put smiles on people’s faces. Ava Gary makes it her mission to use her outgoing personality to brighten others’ days, even if that involves rapping Disney songs on the bus; she will never back down from her mission. Besides being the business manager for the marching band, she is a member of FCCLA, Red Cross Club, Interact Club, and plays the flute in the symphonic band. After high school, she plans to attend either High Point University or Appalachian State University to major in Elementary Education. (Marnic Lewis)
Stacy Hinz
For some, involvement comes in other ways, learning how to help the people around you. Stazy Hinz was a member of the concert/symphonic band up until this year, but she decided to shift her focus. Persistence is something she has learned and has made her goal to help others learn. After high school, she is enrolled in the Ignite Davie College Promise Program and will attend Davidson-Davie Community College for two years to major in Surgical Technology. She also is interested in completing the Central Sterile Processing Short-term training program to further her knowledge. (Marnic Lewis)
Andrea Keller
Walking through the arts hallway of Davie, music blasting from the dance room, you may find Andrea Keller choreographing dances or practicing with the Dancing Boots. Keller has been a member of the dance team and dance department for all four years of high school, a leader and choreographer on the Boots for the past two years. Another way Keller loves to spend her time is growing her faith. She is a Davie County YoungLife leader and has been an FCA leader in the past. Her leadership has also extended into the world of journalism. Keller is a talented photographer whose skills have earned her the role of Head of Multimedia for the Weekly Talon. Her photography has also turned into a job for her, taking pictures for classmates at sporting events or to highlight an accomplishment. After high school, Keller plans to attend Liberty University to major in religious studies and minor in photography. (Marnic Lewis)
Hannah Meacham
Clicking through stories on Instagram, you might find a familiar face painting banners for parties. Hannah Meacham has found her outlet in being creative and creating banners for various events. Meacham not only helps others through her art, but also plays a huge role in Davie YoungLife. Younglife puts an emphasis on reaching out to younger kids and mentoring them through high school. With leaders like Meacham, it is possible. Her quiet kindness shows through the effort she makes to connect with people. After high school, she plans to get an associate’s degree and become a dental hygienist. The passion for connecting to kids hasn’t completely left her head, as being a young life leader is also an option she considers. (Marnic Lewis)
Lila Moore
When not spending her time under Friday night lights, Dancing Boot Lila Moore can otherwise be found at Restaurant 101, pacing quickly across her mother’s restaurant. Her free time outside of extracurricular activities is devoted to her mother’s business, offering a cheerful smile to the patrons of the restaurant. As Editor-In-Chief of The Weekly Talon, Moore is responsible for organizing the website’s publication. She has also been a captain of the varsity lacrosse team for the last three years. After graduation, she hopes to attend Davidson College to major in chemistry on the pre-med track. Her career goal is to be a Pediatric Oncologist or a Pediatric Cardiologist. (Marnic Lewis)
Emersyn Logan
Entering a kitchen, following the smell of a sweet baked good, you might find Emeryson Logan whipping up something. Logan is an avid baker who enjoys making anything from cupcakes to macaroons to specialty cakes. This year, you will start to find her baked goods at different festivals and vendor fairs across the state. Her life is not lived in the kitchen, though; she makes an active effort to spend time with her friends. She also actively enjoys offshore fishing and finds it a stress reliever. After graduating, she plans to attend a culinary school and dreams of opening her own bakery. (Marnic Lewis)
Ella O’Toole
Ella O’Toole has grown up dreaming of working with kids, and she is now working to make that her reality. As vice president of FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America), she is making an active effort to get involved now and help her community. Her urge to help the community doesn’t end at FCCLA; she is also a member of NHS and NTHS. You will also spot her on the tennis court or the soccer field. An active goal of hers is to help others and bring them joy, whether that’s through community service or her art. After graduation, she hopes to attend Appalachian State University to pursue a major in Elementary Education, eventually working with kids in some capacity. (Marnic Lewis)
Ava Jane Tomlinson
Walking past the flagpole in the morning, a confusion washes over you as you see a group standing around it. As you get closer, you hear worship music being sung. Ava Jane Tomlinson is an FCA leader who uses her gift of music to lead others in worship. Tomlinson’s talents don’t end at music; she is a member of the varsity cheerleading team and an active member of NHS. The SURF board is also proud to call her a member, and she does countless things for the community through them. After high school, Tomlinson would love to attend Appalachian State to pursue a degree in Graphic Design and Communications. To her, none of this would have been possible without the support of her family and friends. (Marnic Lewis)
Amaya Zoeller
Strolling through thrift stores, you may spot Amaya Zoeller sorting through the aisles looking for a gem. Zoeller’s involvement shows her true colors, whether it’s as a member of YoungLife or as a volunteer at the Clemmons Food Pantry.
