The Davie High School Women’s basketball team had a historic season ending with an overall record of 20-8 and finishing as the 1st seed in the Central Piedmont Conference regular season. This marked the first conference title the Davie Women’s Basketball team won in 20 years.
Three players were recognized as All-Conference, including freshman Gracie Shore and junior Bailey Aderhold. Sophomore Averie Martin has made a lot of noise this year. Martin already has three college offers from Campbell University, Elon University, and Appalachian State University. At the conclusion of this season, Martin was named 2025 4A Player of the Year. Head Coach Lindsey Adams was also named 2025 4A CPC Coach of the Year. This year the team proved that working hard can pay off, and that is evident in their performance.
The season was rewarding and filled with high-scoring games. On January 8, the team defeated our Yadkin River rivals, West Forsyth, 86-28. But the most memorable game, according to freshman Olivia Smith and junior Bailey Aderhold, was the Reynolds game on February 14. This was the game that secured the team as regular season Conference Champions.
“The locker room after the game was full of so much excitement and energy,” Aderhold shared. “We all started chanting, singing, and dancing to celebrate the moment. It felt like we’d been working toward that one goal all season, and being able to experience it with my teammates made it even more special. That locker room celebration really solidified everything for me—not just the championship, but the bond we had as a team. It was about more than just the game. It was the joy of accomplishing something together, knowing that all our hard work had paid off. I’ll always remember that feeling of unity and pure happiness in that moment.”
All the hard work put in all year and during the season was paying off, and the confidence of the players and the team from the game would aid them in the CPC playoffs.
The team started strong in the CPC playoffs with their victory over Glenn, beating them 79-17 on February 17. On February 18, the team continued on their journey to the championship game by beating Parkland 81-70. Unfortunately, the championship game against East Forsyth on February 21 did not go the way the team wanted. The girls put up a hard fight ending with a score of 38-42. The playoff season was still not over yet they still had the state playoffs. The team crushed the Asheville Cougars 81-39 in the first round of the state playoffs, but they were knocked out in the second round of the playoffs against South Mecklenburg, ending in a score of 58-64.
The season did not go without its challenges, especially for those new to the team, like freshman Olivia Smith. This year marked the transition from a middle school basketball team to high school varsity, a move that was a lot to take in for the freshman.
“A challenge that I faced this season was adjusting to the speed and intensity of high school sports,” Smith said. “It was a big shift from last year in middle school. I overcame it by being exposed to the speed in practice and competing every day.”
With the help of her team, coaches, and experience, Smith scored 11 points in the game against Glenn on February 17, the highest she had scored in a game all season.
The women’s basketball team is one of the most dedicated teams at Davie High. Basketball workouts start as early as the month after the previous season ends. Basketball is a team sport that relies on the determination and dedication of your teammates. Junior Bailey Aderhold stated one trait the team values most is effort.
“It’s something we hold each other accountable for every day,” Aderhold said. “Effort doesn’t require talent or skill—it’s about commitment. When you put effort into the fundamentals, like rebounding, boxing out, taking charges, and making hustle plays, it strengthens the entire team’s success.”
The girls have high expectations for themselves and their teammates to bring their best and work hard.
The team does not have any seniors that they will be losing this year. Next year the team will have 2 seniors, 6 juniors, and 2 sophomores. The team will have experienced players who are familiar with the high-stakes playoff games and who are eager to bring home a conference or state title like sophomore Madison Daugherty. Daugherty is already planning for the next season and has set an ambitious goal;
“Next year, I hope to get all-conference and win another conference championship with my team.”
The hard work, dedication, and love of the sport from the coach and the players is what continues to make the Davie High School Women’s Basketball team better and better each year.
