On December 9, the Davie High track and field team traveled to JDL Fast Track in Winston Salem to attend the Jace’s Journey indoor track meet. The boys took home a first-place team score of 84 points, and the girls placed 9th with 25.5 points. The track and field teams had many personal bests to be proud of.
There were a few stand-out performances from the girls team. On the track, freshman Riley Barnes placed 7th in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 11.4 seconds, junior Lexi Marion ran 5:53 in the 1600 meters and placed 6th, and the girl’s 4×200 meter relay team placed 4th with a time of 1:59. In the middle of the track, junior America Stockton placed 5th in the high jump with a height of 4-06.00, senior Meagan Purvis leaped her way to 5th place in the long jump with a distance of 14-04.50, senior Cailynn Kopetzky placed 4th in the girls Shot Put with a distance of 26-06.00.
The girls’ team had four personal bests from junior America Stockton and freshman Carrington Pitcher, who both PRd in the 55 meters, and freshman Keira Reagan who had 2 PRs at Meet 1 in the 300 meters and one in the 500 meters.
The boys’ team had a triumphant night, bringing home four first-place spots. Junior Austin Sweet placed first in both 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.15 seconds and the pole vault with a height of 13-00.00. Sweet also placed 3rd in the boys’ high jump with a height of 5-04.00. In the 1600 meters, junior Brayden Kistner placed 1st with 4:49, and sophomore Jacob Steelman placed 4th with 5:03. Senior David Patton placed second in the long jump with a new personal best of 19-09.00. Senior Cooper Williams blew the competition away, placing first in the Shot Put with a distance of 60-03.50. Finally, the boys’ 4×200 meter relay team placed 2nd at 1:39.
The boys’ team had 12 personal records. On the track, senior David Patton and sophomore Tanner Steinour PRd in the 55 meters, junior Austin Sweet and Kaden Cole in the 55 meters hurdles, sophomore Max Rappaport in the 300 meters, sophomore Mattew Young in the 500 meters, sophomore Patrick Brady in the 1000 meters, and Senior Chris De Vicente Guerrero and junior Jackson Sulecki in the 1600 meters.
For field events, senior David Patton and sophomore Gavin Horton had personal bests in the long jump and junior Kadden Cole PRd in the pole vault.
The next indoor track meet is the North Stokes Classic on Monday, December 16 at JDL Fast Track.
