On Wednesday, December 4, The War Eagles faced off against the Northern Guilford Nighthawks for the 4th non-conference game of the season. Both teams fell short of a win, but it was a night of gaining new experiences and learning from mistakes.
The girl’s game tipped off at 6:30. As the teams went back and forth up and down the court, Davie fought hard on defense with 7 steals and 2 blocks. The War Eagles netted a total of 23 rebounds, including 7 from sophomore #24 Avarie Martin, who also scored 13 points during the game. Mackenzie Gentry was a helping hand with her 5 assists out of Davie’s 13 total assists. With a final score of 53-71, the women will use this game to power forward and fix mistakes as they face Central Davidson tonight.
The Davie boys took the court around 7:30. Most of the evening’s highlights happened on offense, including a notable performance from #11 Asher Tolbert who was the game’s leading scorer with 8 points out of Davies’s 35 total. #23 Bryson Mickey also had 2 assists out of a total of 5. Defensively, #4 Isaac Swisher managed 4 defensive rebounds out of Davie’s 7 total rebounds. The War Eagles also managed 5 steals and blocks throughout the matchup. The men ended the evening with a final score of 35-72 and now hope to learn from this early-season setback and lock in for a win tonight at The Nest.
