Expression can be found through words, but not always talking. Yes, there is dying your hair, making drawings, talking about the issues. But then, there is poetry. Poetry is like music, singing songs without a tune.
Excerpt from Ode to Music
Written by Hisela Lopez
Music is what keeps my soul alive,
Music gives me a chance to escape from my everyday life,
A chance to be part of something amazing,
It gives us something to believe in,
A call, that allows you to break free. Music comes from anything,
Anything amazing that makes sound,
You hear music everywhere at any time.
It can make you joyful,
So just listen.
Poetry is a form of words that can be swayed in any direction, to have a rhyme or not. It is generally up to the poet how the words want to be written. With April being Poetry Month, appreciation of words is shown.
Poets usually write poems for emotional relief, sometimes as a way to relieve any stress or trauma. The way you might go on a walk or go fishing as a way to soothe tension, poems are used similarly. Poems have a similar effect to music. For example, 9.2 percent of adults wrote poetry in 2022 to cope.
Excerpt from Relief Poem
Written by David Harris
Relief now lifts you
and gone is the emotional turmoil
that blighted your being.
Refreshed you feel
a new wellspring
in which your life can unfold.
Anyone can find poetry helpful for the mind. For example, in 2021, hospitalized children found that reading poetry relieves stress, anger, and grief. On the other hand, Healthcare workers used poetry as a way to overcome burnout. After all, working in healthcare is physically and mentally draining.
Poetry is like a tune that flows through your heart. A multitude of meanings just like music, that is therapeutic to others. Poetry is for everyone, especially in times of hardship.
