Around this time every year, the Davie County SURF Board hosts their Grant Cycle. The SURF Board has one goal: to better the education and futures of the students in Davie County. To do so, they put on a Grant Cycle that is open to students in grades 6-12 where they can write grants to fund projects that they think will better the community. The SURF Board has gained money through sponsorships and the annual Popsicle 5k fundraiser, and the Board is happy to use this money to fund the projects of students.
The SURF Board has awarded many grants and funded various youth-led projects throughout the past twelve years. For example, the SURF Board has funded the Davie High Band program to buy new instruments. The board funded the Soaring Eagles program to go on their own field trip. The board also funded the making of blankets for the Dragonfly House to give to kids. These projects make a difference among the students and young leaders of Davie County. Helping the future generations of Davie County is very important to better the community as a whole.
This year, the SURF Board has a lot of money they would like to grant towards projects to better the futures of students. If you or someone you know has a project that positively impacts the youth of Davie County, visit the Davie County Community Foundation website and start your Grant Application now. The application closes on March 25th, so be sure to start it as soon as possible. The only criteria for the SURF grant are that the application must be filled out by a middle school or high school student, and the project must be student-led and directly affect the youth of Davie County. Fill out those applications now, and the board will be excited to award new grants for this year’s Grant Cycle.
