Friendly people, smiling faces, and a mission to help those in need. The Ronald McDonald House Club has a mission to help support people in need and make them feel like they are in their home away from home, and President Caroline Thomspon’s goal is to do just that and more.
Thompson is a junior at Davie County High School and is the president of the Ronald McDonald House Club. But what even is the Ronald McDonald House?
What is the Ronald McDonald House?
The Ronald McDonald House is an organization that helps provide a safe environment for families who need medical care but can’t get it where they live. The organization has supported millions of families who needed support, with 690+ core programs worldwide, and locations in 62 different countries and regions. RMHC programs, including our club at Davie High, work to help families with financial burdens who can not afford medical bills for children and adults under the age of 21. They work to provide a secure place for families to stay while their family members receive medical care without separating them
“Ronald McDonald House Club is a service-based club that is focused on helping the Winston-Salem Ronald McDonald House,” says Thomspon. “Their goal is to help as many families and children as possible, and as president, I want to help them do that.”
Journey to “presidency”
Caroline Thompson was referred by a friend to the teacher who runs the club, math teacher Yvette Shore, who was looking for a student to assist her in running the club. The unnamed friend immediately thought of Thompson and referred her to Mrs. Shore, who got in contact with her and they worked out the details! It worked out perfectly because Mrs. Shore would be able to get the club started and Thompson thought it would be a big learning experience.
“I think being a club president will improve my leadership skills tremendously, will help me to work with people I normally wouldn’t, and help me get out of my comfort zone to reach club goals,” Thompson shared, “I also think this will be a good chance for me to learn to be more organized.”
Club Goals
While the road to the presidency was easier than some, that doesn’t mean she has put in less work than others or has fewer goals.
“I love Jesus,” stated Thompson proudly, who is an active member at Calvary West Church, “I want to try to show His love through serving the community.”
While her goal might seem slightly irrelevant to some people, Thomspon tries to incorporate the Lord into all aspects of her life, big or small. By being the president of the Ronald McDonald House, she has been given the perfect opportunity to do just that.
“I want to show Christ’s love through giving my time and services to the community and helping others who can’t help themselves!”
The goal of the Ronald McDonald House is to provide “a home away from home” for sick children who need medical care far away from home and need a place to stay. The foundation also works to provide a place where families can stay together and rest while their children get vital medical care. The Ronald McDonald House Club here at Davie County High School works to help support the foundation in any way possible. Whether that be volunteering and collecting items they need to provide help to others.
“Our goal is generally just to help Ronald McDonald House in any way we can! This involves things like collecting items for them and volunteering our time to help them with things around the house.”
The Davie High RMHC President
With a friendly, smiling face, a mission to help those in need, and a heart wanting to spread the love of the Lord to anyone around her Caroline Thompson is a president ready to serve her community and help lead the Davie County High School Ronald McDonald House Club in any way she can.
“The goal of the Ronald McDonald House is to help anyone who needs it. My goal is to help them in any way I can while showing the love of Christ,” promised Thompson, vowing to help her new club in any way possible.
