It’s finally fall again! This means an abundance of pumpkin spice, warm color palettes, football season, and, of course, a new round of Homecoming Queen Nominees! The 16 candidates have been selected by the senior class of 2024. Below is some information so you can get to know this year’s nominees!
Paola Argueta
Paola was an All-Star Cheerleader at Infinity Elite Athletics for six years and loves taking pictures, traveling and spending time with her friends and family. After graduating high school, she plans to attend Davidson County Community College to pursue a degree in cosmetology and eventually work to become an esthetician.
Kadence Bogard
Kadence has been on the Davie County Dancing Boots team for all four years of her high school experience. She has also been a member of the National Honor Society for two years. After her high school graduation, she hopes to attend Cape Fear Community College for two years before transferring to UNC Wilmington. She plans to study radiology and go on to become a radiologic technologist.
Ali Cranfill
Ali has been on the Davie High Women’s Tennis team for all 4 years and currently plays in a starting position. She is also a member of National Honor Society, a Young Life Davie student leader, and is the secretary of the Heroes of Hope Club. Outside of school, Ali enjoys volunteering at Calvary West by leading worship or helping with kids. She has played piano for over 13 years and also finds fun in trying to play new instruments. She also loves babysitting, volunteering, exercising, traveling, and spending time with her friends and family. Ali will attend High Point University to major in business administration or psychology and hopes to spend time on missions along the way.
Emily Dixson
Emily is very involved with the Davie County cheerleading program, having participated in it for all four years of high school, and has been an All-Star cheerleader for 10 years in addition to her time with the high school cheer team. She plans to attend a 4-year university to major in nursing.
Erin Fincher
Erin is a flute player in the Davie Wind Ensemble and is both the Woodwind Coordinator and part of the social media team for the Davie High Band Program. She is also a member of the National Honor Society, a Student Ambassador, STEM Ambassador, and co-vice president of the Davie Junior Civitans. Erin hopes to attend NC State University and major in aerospace engineering and astronomy. She plans on either working for NASA or becoming a pilot following her college education.
Makenna Groff
Makenna is a member of the SURF Board, National Honor Society, and served as a Junior Marshal for the graduating class of 2023. She also loves spending time with friends and family, hiking, and traveling to and exploring new places. Makenna also has a strong passion for helping little kids, and she has spent the past two summers working at a toddler preschool. She would like to attend Appalachian State to prepare for a career in pediatric occupational therapy.
Kathryn Harpe
Kathryn is Co-Captain of the Dancing Boots and a Student Young Life Leader. She is a member of the National Honor Society and part of FCA. Outside of school, she has danced for 14 years. She also spends her summers as a counselor at Camp Manna. Next year, Kathryn hopes to attend Appalachian State University to potentially pursue a degree in marketing and graphic design.
Hailey Johnson
Hailey is a member of the National Honors Society and serves as the Secretary for Student Council and President of the Humane Society Club. She plans to attend a four-year university and to go into a Pre-Pharmacy program for undergrad, hopefully at either UNC Chapel Hill or West Virginia University. Following the reception of her degree, Hailey is planning to apply for pharmacy school to earn her PharmD and become a pharmacist.
Annabelle Lakey
Annabelle is a part of the Soaring Eagles program at Davie and is a member of the Interact Club. She enjoys watching TV, playing with her dogs, and playing Mario Kart. After Annabelle finishes her time in high school, she wants to volunteer with the Humane Society because she wants to work with and take care of all the animals in need that live there.
Brooklyn Lakey
Brooklyn currently serves as Student Council President, Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Weekly Talon, Co-President of the SURF Board, Vice-President of the Interact Club, and is an active member of the National Honors Society. She has played tennis all four years of high school and currently works at The Station in downtown Mocksville. Brooklyn plans to attend a 4-year university to study Business and Marketing.
Caroline Lakey
Caroline is the Historian/Social Media Coordinator for the National Honor Society, Marketing Chair for the SURF Board, and Secretary for the Interact Club. She also has played volleyball since she was in elementary school, participating in indoor volleyball, beach volleyball, and travel volleyball. Caroline hopes to attend a four year university, preferably UNC Chapel Hill, and major in Pre-Med with the intent of eventually becoming a dermatologist.
Allison Reese
Allison is a member of the National Honors Society and was a part of the Davie Cheer Team for two years. She very much enjoys spending time with her friends and family and also loves traveling. Allison is planning to attend Appalachian State University to major in nursing.
Lilli Seats
Lilli has been a member of the varsity swim and lacrosse teams for all four years of her high school career. She is currently in the CNA program and she loves gaining more experience in the healthcare world, creating wonderful relationships with the residents and the work environment she is immersed in. Lilli also loves live music, hiking, traveling, and spending time with her loved ones. She plans to attend Appalachian State University to major in health science, hoping to become an occupational therapist specializing in special needs.
Bonnie Jo Taylor
Bonnie is the Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Weekly Talon and the Davie High Band Captain. She plays trumpet in the Wind Ensemble and is also a Student Ambassador and a member of the National Honor Society. Bonnie plans on attending a 4-year university to major in Sociology, Criminology or Criminal Justice and either attend graduate school for a master’s degree or apply for law school. Following her education, she aspires to work in law enforcement or to be involved in government agencies such as the FBI or CIA.
Abby Wilson
Abby is one of the drum majors for the Davie High Marching Band, where she has participated for all four years of high school. She is also a member of the National Honor Society. Abby plans to go to either UNC Chapel Hill or High Point University to major in biology and then transfer into medical school to later on become a radiologist. She also loves to play music and travel to different countries with her family to go scuba diving.
Harmony Young
Harmony is on the varsity football cheer team as well as the competition cheer team at Davie. She serves in the role of the captain for Varsity Cheer and works to be someone many individuals can look up to. Harmony plans on going to a 4-year university to pursue a bachelor’s degree in nursing. After college, Harmony plans to work in the NICU to save the lives of newborn babies and help them begin a happy and healthy life.
These young women are all thrilled to represent the Class of 2024. The crowning of this year’s Homecoming Queen will be in the Davie High football stadium at halftime on October 13th, 2023. One of these sixteen incredible young ladies will be crowned at the event, and they are all extremely honored to receive this opportunity. Congratulations to all these amazing girls on their nominations!
