The Reagan Raiders traveled to The Nest this past Thursday, September 29th to take on our varsity War Eagles. The game was moved to Thursday because of the Friday weather forecast. The clouds from the impending tropical storm made for a beautiful sunset over Davie High School and War Eagle Stadium. Unfortunately, the perfect fall night would end in defeat for our team, 41-21.
Despite the Raiders putting the first touchdown points on the board, Davie got off to a strong start. Brian Argueta returns to the 44 followed by three runs by Markel Summers for the 1st down. Brodie Smith caught a pass for 2nd and 6 and a 4th down completion to Aidan Froelich gained Davie another 1st down. Evan York’s catch for a 1st down on the 11 yd line put Davie in scoring position. A pass from Ty Miller to Markel in the end zone and a good PAT by Palmer Williams gave Davie a 7-6 lead.
The Raiders were quickly forced to punt because of strong defense including a sack by Mason Shermer.
Davie begins their drive from the 44 yard line. Ty on the keeper for a 1st down followed by Summers on a big run breaking all sorts of tackles for a 1st down on the 12 yard line puts Davie County in scoring position once again. Summers carried to the 5 yard line, but an illegal procedure call on Davie pushed us back. A handoff to Summers for a 1st down put Davie right where they needed to be for Markel to run in another War Eagle touchdown! The PAT is good; 14-6 Davie.
Palmer William’s touchback starts Reagan on the 20. A dead ball foul on Reagan loses them yardage and a 3rd down LONG pass was broken up by Connor Hood and Gavin Reese to bring out the 4th down and give possession back to Davie after a punt to the 38 yard line.
Three consecutive quarterback keepers for three consecutive first downs and a first down by Summers puts Davie on the 4 yard line. Summers runs in his third touchdown of the night bringing the score to 21-6 Davie County.
The night was looking great for our War Eagles, but things turned around just before the half. Mistakes by Davie and two touchdowns, a two point conversion, and a good PAT for Reagan sent the teams into the fieldhouse tied at halftime.
The second half started with two more touchdowns by the Raiders. A blocked PAT by Connor Hood kept the score to 21-34, Reagan.
The fourth quarter was, unfortunately, more of the same as the Raiders scored on a Davie County fumble. The score is 21-41 with 5:46 left in the game.
After an interception to regain control of the ball, the Raiders take a knee twice to end the game and head back to Tobaccoville with a win, 21-41 Reagan.
This Friday night is homecoming at War Eagle Stadium as we take on the Mount Tabor Spartans.
